Euroopasta

Tänään oli mukava päivä. Saimme kirjeen ja kortin: Alankomaat ja Saksa

Today was a nice day. We received a letter and a card: the Netherlands and Germany.

Toisessa, meidän toiveidemme mukaisessa kortissa, on kaunis, hämyisä kuutamo. Silvia arvelee, että  meidän pitäisi ladata maisemaa auringonvalolla hieman, joutuihan se olemaan pimeässä kirjekuoressa kauan. ;)
Ja Vincentin maalaus on sanoinkuvaamattoman upea! Kiitos kaikista!

Silvia’s letter contained a special surprise intended for us. She knew we were fond of Greece, which is why she sent us a postcard from Thessaloniki that she had received from her pen pal. Another card—chosen just to our liking—features a beautiful, mystical moonlit scene. Silvia suggests we should let the landscape soak up some sunlight, seeing as it spent so long in the darkness of the envelope. ;)
And Vincent’s painting is absolutely magnificent! Thank you for everything!

We received a picture from Olaf in Mainz featuring two lively young rascals—the sort of boy he admits to having been himself while growing up in Hamburg. He still misses the sea, the wind, and sailing from those days. Nowadays, he works as a physicist in Mainz. Many thanks for the card and the greetings!

Perjantain parhaat

Mukava saada lukemista viikonlopuksi!
It’s nice to have something to read for the weekend! In addition to Germany, mail also arrived from Belgium and Austria.

Marinan kortti Belgian Antverpenista tuli kirjekuoressa. Se takasi varman ja ehjän perillepääsyn. Kuvassa näkyy hämyinen puu, jonka oksien lomasta pilkottaa kuun sirppi. Vaikuttava! Kyseessä on René Magritten öljyvärityö: "Kuudestoista syyskuuta".

Marina’s postcard from Antwerp, Belgium, arrived in an envelope, ensuring it reached its destination safely and intact. The image shows a shadowy tree with a crescent moon peeking through its branches. Striking! It is an oil painting by René Magritte titled *The Sixteenth of September*.
Marina mentions that the weather was so mild she was able to write the card out on the terrace; those days are already behind us here.

Itävallan Wienistä "lennätti" meille Wolfgang pingviinejä. Hauskoja! Hän toivottaa meille mukavia matkoja. Itävallassa emme ole käyneet. Se on kyllä kaunis ja vuoristoinen maa. Wolfgangin mielestä Innsbruck on kaikista paras.

Wolfgang "flew" some penguins over to us from Vienna, Austria. They’re fun! He wishes us pleasant travels. We haven’t been to Austria ourselves, though it is certainly a beautiful, mountainous country. Wolfgang thinks Innsbruck is the best place of all.

Wolfgangin kortti tuli myös kirjeessä. Kuoressa juhlistettiin Erlauf-laakson rautatietä.
Wolfgang’s card also arrived in a letter. The envelope celebrated the Erlauf Valley Railway.

Maailman postikorttipäivää juhli Tini Saksassa lähettämällä meille teemaan sopivan kortin. Kiitos siitä! Tini oli kirjoittaessaan lomalla aurinkoisen Itämeren rannalla. Siksi hänen terveisensä tuntuvat erityisen mieluisilta täällä sateisen syksyisessä Suomessa.

Tini celebrated World Postcard Day in Germany by sending us a card that fit the occasion perfectly. Thank you for that! She was on holiday on the sunny Baltic coast when she wrote it, which makes her greetings feel especially welcome here in rainy, autumnal Finland.

Toinen Saksa-kortti tuli Ulmista Svetlanalta. Kortissa on erikoinen linnun kuva. Se onkin luonnontieteellisen museon "kuriositeettihuoneesta". Hieno! Svetlana kertoo harrastavansa puutarhanhoitoa, lukemista ja teekutsuja. Kuulostaa mukavalta. Hyvää syksyn jatkoa Ulmiin!

Another card from Germany arrived from Svetlana in Ulm. It features an unusual picture of a bird—one that comes from the "cabinet of curiosities" at the natural history museum. It’s great! Svetlana mentions that she enjoys gardening, reading, and tea parties. That sounds lovely. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the autumn in Ulm!

Kirjepostia

Niiden aiheina olivat viime vuoden maailman postikorttipäivän kivat kuvat. Kiitoksia niistä!
Hän kertoo harrastuksestaan: mustekynien keräily. Niitä hänellä on paljon ja niissä on erivärisiä musteita. Hauska harrastus! Pidämme siitä, että kortit lähetetään kirjekuoressa. Ne tulevat ehjinä perille. Niin kävi nytkin. Mainiota!

A thick letter from Germany arrived unexpectedly today. Evelyn sent it from central Berlin, where she lives. Inside, we found three lovely cards featuring nice images from last year's World Postcard Day. Thanks for them!

She talks about her hobby: collecting fountain pens. She has a lot of them and they have different colored inks. A fun hobby! We like it when cards are sent in envelopes; they arrive intact. That’s what happened this time, too. Excellent!

Vihdoinkin

Olemme kärsineet postikadosta pitkään. Nyt uuden kuun alkaessa jotakin on muuttunut.

We have suffered from a lack of mail for a long time. Now, as a new month begins, something has changed.

Saksasta saimme Fulcon terveiset. Hän kertoo olevansa juoksija, maratoonari jopa. Kiitos kortista. Toivottavasti jalkasi ovat höyhenenkevyet kuten tiaisilla, joista kortissa on kuva!

We received greetings from Fulco in Germany. He tells us he is a runner—a marathoner, even. Thanks for the card. We hope your legs feel as light as feathers, just like the tits pictured on the card!

Richardin kortti tuli Blainen kaupungista Washingtonista, läheltä Kanadan rajaa. Lähellä on Seattle ja Kanadan puolella Vancouver. Hieno kortti! Kiitoksia! Mommin ja Papan poika on käynyt Seattlessa.

Richard's card came from the city of Blaine, Washington, near the Canadian border. Seattle is nearby, and Vancouver is on the Canadian side. A great card! Thank you! Mommi and Pappa's son has visited Seattle.

Elokuun alkajaisiksi

Kaukaa Intiasta lehnnähti meille varpunen, tuttu lintu. Sen lennätti Pranab Bangaloresta, Etelä-Intiasta. Kaunis kortti on tehty "maailman varpuspäivän" kunniaksi. Paljon kiitoksia siitä! Pranab kertoo, ettei heillä nykyään juuri varpusia näe. Sääli!

A sparrow, a familiar bird, flew to us from far away in India. It was flown in by Pranab from Bangalore, South India. The beautiful card was made in honor of "World Sparrow Day". Thank you very much for that! Pranab says that they don't see many sparrows these days. What a pity!

Hienoja postimerkkejä!
Great stamps!

Saksan Taufkirchenistä, läheltä Myncheniä, saimme kuvia  Mynchenin kaupungin arvokkaista rakennuksista. Komeita ovat. Paljon kiitoksia!

From Taufkirchen, Germany, near Munich, we received pictures of the valuable buildings of the city of Munich. They are beautiful. The card was sent by Thomas, who says he is an avid traveler and photographer. Thank you very much! We wish you good travels, beautiful photogenic places and sights!

Heinäkuun kortit

Aika luoda katsaus heinäkuun tulokseen: Saksa 4, USA 3, Alankomaat, Puola,Kreikka ja Kiina, yksi kustakin.

Time to create an overview of the July result: Germany 4, USA 3, Netherlands, Poland, Greece and China, one each.

Unfortunately, Armgard's card from Bonn had gotten into trouble in the mail. So her spring greetings in May were delayed. Thanks anyway! It was nice to receive a stylish card with cherries in bloom.

Toukokuussa oli tämäkin kortti lähetetty. Flösserstadt Wolfratshausenissa oli Postcrossing-tapaaminen, josta Anja lähetti meille tervehdyksen. Siellä oli ollut runsaasti osanottajia. Suuret kiitokset! Mukava, että harrastus elää vilkkaana.

This card was also sent in May. There was a Postcrossing meeting in Flösserstadt Wolfratshausen, from which Anja sent us a greeting. There had been a lot of participants. Many thanks! It's nice that the hobby lives on.

Meistä on mukava saada kirjeitä. Niiden sisältö säilyy matkalla ehjänä. Evalta saimme kirjeessä kaksi korttia. Toisessa oli mielenkiintoinen ruokaresepti - aiomme kokeilla sitä. Toisessa taas oli hassu kuva Jollylucysta sekä kiva idea viettää "suudelmapäivää" - sitäkin pitää kokeilla. Suuret kiitokset!

It's nice to receive letters from us. Their contents remain intact during the journey. We received two cards from Eva in the letter. Another one had an interesting food recipe - we're going to try it.

The other one had a funny picture of Jollylucy and a nice idea to celebrate "kiss day" - you have to try that too. Many thanks!

Toinenkin kirje tuli Saksasta. Se sisälsi Alin lähettämän kauniin kiinalaisen kortin fasaaneista nimeltä: Kevät puutarhassa, Chen Guoaliangin maalaus vuodelta 1955.
Paljon kiitoksia!

Another letter also came from Germany. It contained a beautiful Chinese card of pheasants sent by Ali entitled: Spring in the Garden, a 1955 painting by Chen Guoaliang.
Many thanks!

Jatketaan huomenna!
Let's continue tomorrow!
