Viikko alkaa

 Muutaman päivän hiljaiselon jälkeen toiveikkuus herää postin suhteen. Tänään napsahti kaksi viestiä, toinen USA:sta, toinen Saksasta.

After a few days of quiet life, hopefulness awakens regarding the mail. Two messages clicked today, one from the USA, the other from Germany.

Saksassa on ns. Saksan Viinitie ( Deutsche Weinstrasse ), laaja viininviljelyalue. Sen varrella Grünstadtissa asuu insinööri Dirk, joka lähetti meille hyvin informatiivisen kortin alueesta ja sen nähtävyyksistä. Pappa kertoi meille katselleensa hiljattain YouTubesta videon sieltä. Oli ollut kaunista. Dirk harrastaa vapaa-ajallan vaeltelemista vuoristossa ( Schwarzwald ), minkä metsät ovat tosi värikkäät näin syksyllä. Oikein paljon kiitoksia. 

In Germany, there is a so-called German Wine Route ( Deutsche Weinstrasse ), a vast wine-growing region. Dirk, an engineer, lives along it in Grünstadt, and he sent us a very informative postcard about the area and its attractions. It's interesting. If only we could travel along it someday. Pappa told us that he had recently watched a video from there on YouTube. It had been beautiful. In his free time, Dirk enjoys hiking in the mountains (Black Forest), whose forests are really colorful this fall. Thank you very much!

Toinen kortti tulikin kaukaa Kaliforniasta jättimäisen punapuun juurelta. No, oikeasti Davisin kaupungista läheltä pääkaupunki Sacramentoa. Siellä asuu isoäiti Bev miehensä, poikansa perheen, lastenlastensa sekä Bubba-koiransa kanssa. Mutta todellakin siellä kasvaa noita suuren suuria punapuita, joiden vaiheilla Bev mielellään kävelee. Meidän metsiemme puut ovat kääpiöitä punapuiden rinnalla, mukavia silti. Suuret kiitokset Kaliforniaan kortista ja terveisistä! Hyvää jatkoa kaikille!

The second card came from far away in California from the foot of a giant redwood. Well, actually from the city of Davis near the capital Sacramento. Grandma Bev lives there with her husband, her son's family, her grandchildren and her dog Bubba. But really, there are those big redwoods that Bev likes to walk along. The trees in our forests are dwarfs next to redwoods, still nice. Many thanks to California for the card and greetings! Good luck everyone!

Viikko päättyy kaukaisiin terveisiin Tyynenmeren valtiosta, USA:n Washingtonista. Kristine lähetti sieltä tietopaketin kotivaltionsa tyypillisista piirteistä. Ensinnäkin Washington ylpeilee olemalla "Ikivihreä Valtio". 60 % USA:n omenoista kasvatetaan siellä ( the Red Delicious ), valtion virallinen nimikkolintu on amerikantikli ( Willow Goldfinch ), nimikkokukka on Tyynenmeren rhododendron ( Coast Rhododendron ). Yhdysvaltoihin liittymispäivä: 11. marraskuuta 1889.

Mukava oppia uusia asioita. Mommin ja Papan poika on perheineen käynyt Seattlessa, me emme. Olisi joskus mukava päästä. Me toivotamme Kristinelle hyvää syksyn jatkoa, työn iloa ja jossakin vaiheessa mukavia matkoja!

The week ends with distant greetings from the Pacific Ocean state, Washington, USA. From there, Kristine sent an information package about the typical features of her home state. First, Washington brags about being the "Evergreen State." 60% of US apples are grown there ( the Red Delicious ), the state's official bird is the Willow Goldfinch, the flower is the Pacific Rhododendron ( Coast Rhododendron ). Date of entry into the United States: November 11, 1889.

Nice to learn new things. Mom and Papa's son has been to Seattle with his family, we haven't. It would be nice to go sometime. We wish Kristine a good continuation of the autumn, the joy of work and at some time nice trips!

 

Kotoisa keskiviikko

 

Tuollaiset pikku veijarit ovat mukavia kavereita, niin kuin tämäkin Minna Immosen kortissa keinuva punaposki, jonka Eija ja Juha Kannuksesta lähettivät meille. Ei se Kannus kovin kaukana ole, Pohjanmaalla tietenkin!

He kertovat syksyisistä harrastuksistaan, sienestyksestä etenkin. Mutta matkailu näyttää olevan varsinainen juttu. He ovat käyneet 44 maassa, karavaanareille kokemuksia karttuu. Suuret kiitokset! Kauniita syksyisiä päiviä!

Those little rascals are nice guys, just like this red-cheeked boy rocking in Minna Immonen's card, which Eija and Juha from Kannus sent us. Kannus is not very far away, in Ostrobothnia of course!

They talk about their autumn hobbies, mushroom picking in particular. But tourism seems to be the real thing. They have been to 44 countries, experience is accumulating for caravanners. Many thanks! Beautiful autumn days!

Kaamea keskivikko

 Viikko vilahti taas Etelä-Suomessa. Pian tulomme jälkeen sää muuttui ankeaksi: tuulee, sataa, on koleaa ja hämärää keskellä päivääkin, puut ravistelevat loput lehtensä irti. Mutta! Mutta! Pitää löytää sisäinen aurinkonsa, pitää katsoa postilaatikkoon. Sieltä paistoivat kaksi lähetystä Liettuasta ja Puolasta. Näin saimme ajatuksemme karkotetuksi masentavista syysilmiöistä!

The week flashed again in Southern Finland. Shortly after our arrival, the weather turned grim: it's windy, it's raining, it's chilly and dark even in the middle of the day, the trees are shaking off the rest of their leaves. But! But! You have to find your inner sun, you have to look in the mailbox. From there, two mailings from Lithuania and Poland were sent. This is how we got our thoughts banished from the depressing autumn phenomena!

Aushralta saimme kirjeessä kaksi korttia Kaunasista, Liettuan toiseksi suurimmasta kaupungista. Se on historiallinen, kaunis kaupunki, jossa on paljon nähtävää. Aushra kertoo korteissaan Kaunasin erikoisuuksista. Se on kuuluisa myös koripallotaitureista. Hän mainitsee Arvydas Sabonisin ja hänen poikansa Domantasin, joka pelaa USA:ssa. - Onhan meilläkin Lauri Markkasemme.

Hän kertoo olevansa "kirjastotäti", joka tykkää lukemisesta, leipomisesta, kävelyistä miehensä kanssa ja matkustelemisesta - Kreikka-faneja ovat. Suuret, suuret kiitokset!

We received two cards from Aushra in the letter from Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania. It is a historic, beautiful city with a lot to see. Aushra tells about the specialties of Kaunas in her cards. It is also famous for basketball players. She mentions Arvydas Sabonis and his son Domantas, who plays in the USA. - After all, we also have our own Lauri Markkanen.

She says she is a "library aunt" who likes reading, baking, walking with her husband and traveling - They are fans of Greece, too. Many, many thanks!

Puolan pääkaupungissa, Varsovassa, asuu Beata, jolta saimme kuvan pikkuisesta linnusta, pajusirkusta ( Emberiza schoeniclus ). Myös postimerkissä on lintu: keltasirkku ( Emberiza citrinella ). Pidämme niistä, tuttuja laulajia.

Beata tunnelmoi korttia kirjoittaessaan. Hän istui nauttimassa aamuteetään kirjoittelemassa korttejaan.

Beata lives in the capital of Poland, Warsaw, from whom we got a picture of a little bird, the Common reed bunting ( Emberiza schoeniclus ). There is also a bird on the stamp: the yellowhammer  (Emberiza citrinella). We like them, familiar singers.

Beata sat happily while writing the card. She was enjoying her morning tea writing her cards.

Sadepäivän piristeet

 Syksyn sateinen hämärä masentaa. Onneksi on Postcrossing! Kaksi Taiwanista yksi Alankomaista!

Gerdientje, joka asuu rannikolla pienessä kylässä nimeltä Rockanje, kävi lomallaan Saksassa Wismarissa - sieltä on saamamme kaunis kortti. Paljon kiitoksia! Myös postimerkki on sievä; se kunnioittaa saksalaisen maahanmuuton 200-vuotisaikaa Brasiliaan.

Gerdientje, who lives on the coast in a small village called Rockanje, went on holiday to Wismar in Germany - this is where the beautiful card we received is from. Thank you very much! The stamp is also pretty; it honors the bicentennial of German immigration to Brazil.

Kahden lapsen tutkija-äidiltä, Judylta, Taiwanin Taoyuanista saimme harvinaisen linnun kuvan. Se on Taiwaninjuhina, endeeminen laji. Itsestään hän kertoo olevansa kahden pienen lapsen äiti, poika 3-vuotias, tytär vasta 1-vuotias. Hänellä riittää sentään aikaa työn ja perheen ohella rentoutumiseen Postcrossingin parissa. Oikein paljon kiitoksia hienosta kortista ja kauniista postimerkeistä!

We received a photo of a rare bird from researcher mom Judy in Taoyuan, Taiwan. It is a Taiwan juhina, an endemic species. About herself, she says that she is the mother of two small children, a 3-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter. Besides work and family, she has enough time to relax with Postcrossing. Thank you very much for the great card and the beautiful stamps!

Toinen kortti Taiwanista tuli Yi Zhilta paikasta nimeltä Chiayi. Yi Zhi kertoo olevansa postinkantaja, joten hänen on helppo postittaa korttinsa - joutuu kuitenkin maksamaan postimerkkinsä itse. Kortin postimerkissä myhäilee kissa. Se johtuu siitä, että hänen kaupunkinsa oli aikoinaan kutsuttu nimellä "Da Mao", mikä kuulosti kuin olisi sanottu: "Lyö kissaa" - mutta vain kuulosti, ei se todella merkinnyt sitä. Hassu juttu!

Another card from Taiwan came from Yi Zhi from a place called Chiayi. Yi Zhi says that he is a postman, so it is easy for him to post his card - but he has to pay for the stamps himself. The stamp on the card shows a lounging cat. It's because his city was once called "Da Mao", which sounded like saying, "Hit the cat" - but it just sounded like it didn't really mean it. Giggle!

The picture on the card seems a little mystical to us, maybe fairy-tale-like. We thank you for everything you said, the card and the stamps!

Losista

 

Kuumat terveiset Los Angelesista tänne koleaan, sateiseen Suomeen lähetti meille Olivia. Hän tuskailee ankaran kuumuuden kanssa, mikä vallitsee nyt alueella. Siitä on monenmoista haittaa. Hän onkin pysytellyt jatkuvasti ilmastoiduissa sisätiloissa. Toivottavasti syksy tuo hänelle helpostusta!

Olivia sent warm greetings from Los Angeles to us here in cold, rainy Finland. She is struggling with the severe heat weather that is now prevailing in the area. It has many disadvantages. She has always stayed indoors with air conditioning. I hope autumn brings her relief!

Neljä nättiä

 Hyvillä mielin lähdemme viikonlopun viettoon. Onhan päivän postimme neljä korttia, kaksi USA:sta, yksi Japanista ja yksi Saksasta.

Kalliovuoret ovat taas esillä - kyllä niitä kelpaa katsella. Libbyn kortti tuli läheltä Kalliovuorten kansallispuistoa, Coloradosta, missä hän perheineen asuu. He vaeltavat mielellään siellä. Isovanhempina heillä on mukavaa puuhaa 4-vuotiaiden kaksosten kanssa. Kiitämme kovasti kortista ja terveisistä! Hyvää syksyä teille!

The Rocky Mountains are on display again - yes, they are worth looking at. Libby's card came from near Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, where she and her family live. They love to wander there. As grandparents, they have a nice time with their 4-year-old twins. Thank you very much for the card and greetings! Happy autumn to you all!

Toinen Amerikankortti tuli Seattlesta, länsirannikolta. Sen postitti Karen, joka kertoo osavaltionsa olevan "Ikivihreä valtio". Se johtuu tietysti siitä, että sadetta saadaan riittävästi kasvillisuuden  tarpeisiin. Hän kertoo myös, että heillä elää buffaloita / biisoneita, mutta onneksi leijonia vain eläintarhoissa. Kortin leijona on mahtava! Suuret kiitokset!

Another American card came from Seattle, on the west coast. Posted by Karen who says her state is the "Evergreen State". It is, of course, because there is enough rain to meet the needs of the vegetation. She also says that they have buffalo / bison, but luckily lions only in zoos. The lion on the card is awesome! Many thanks!

Pysykäämme yhä kaukana Suomesta. Japanista saakka saimme mielenkiintoisen kortin naiselta, joka käyttää nimimerkkiä Cxysr - ehkä se on hänen oikea nimensä, valitettavasti emme tunne Japanin kulttuuria tarpeeksi.

Mutta kuvassa on menossa kohtaus kiinalaisesta tarinasta ( zhu que ), jossa esiintyy auringonjumala lintuperheen edustajien kera. Kertomusta emme tunne, mutta maalaus on upea. Kiitos siitä! 

Let's stay far away from Finland. All the way from Japan, we received an interesting card from a woman who goes by the name Cxysr - maybe that's her real name, unfortunately we don't know enough about Japanese culture.

But the picture shows a scene from a Chinese story in which the sun god appears with representatives of the bird family ( zhu que ). We don't know the story, but the painting is wonderful. Thanks for that!

Lopuksi Saksaan. Pohjanmeren rannalta kirjoitti Uschi pitävänsä kävelyistä koiransa kanssa pitkin rantaa tai metsäpolkuja. Rentouttavan aamiaisen jälkeen hän oli tullut katsoneeksi tietokoneeseensa ja löytänyt meidät. Niinpä saimme mukavasti kesää kaipaavaan tunnelmaamme kivan rantakuvan. Oikein paljon kiitoksia!

Finally, to Germany. From the North Sea coast, Uschi wrote that she likes walks with her dog along the beach or forest paths. After a relaxing breakfast, she had come to look at her computer and found us. So we got a nice beach picture for our longing for summer mood. Thank you very much!
