Kahdeksan kortin kokoelma

 Olimme taas viikon Padasjoella. Ja kun palasimme, "korttipakka" oli odottamassa: Saksasta kolme, Ranskasta, USA:sta ja Kanadasta yksi kustakin, mutta Taiwanista kaksi - samalta lähettäjältä.

We were at Padasjoki again for a week. And when we returned, the "pack of cards" was waiting: three from Germany, one each from France, USA and Canada, but two from Taiwan - from the same sender.

Christianin kortin nimi on "Silver Calligraphy".

Hän kertoo viime vuonna käyneensä Kreetalla, saarella joka on hänelle entuudestaan tuttu. Mutta hänen vaimolleen se oli ensimmäinen kerta. He pitivät kreikkalaisesta ruoasta ja kulttuurista. Galina's card describes the story of a duck and a fox.

Galina on alun perin venäläinen, mutta on jo pitkään asunut Saksassa. Hän kertoo perheensä aikovan pian matkustaa autolla Itävallan ja Slovenian kautta Kroatiaan. Matka kestää 13 tuntia. Saksasta pääseekin autolla mukavasti eri suuntiin.

Galina is originally Russian, but has been living in Germany for a long time. She says that her family plans to travel by car through Austria and Slovenia to Croatia soon. The journey takes 13 hours. From Germany, you can easily get to different directions by car.

Kolmas kortti Saksasta tulee Hampurin läheltä Buxtehudesta. Sen lähetti Bine ( Sabine ). Hän kertoo paikallisesta sadusta, jossa jänis ja siili löivät vetoa - siili hitaanpana, mutta nokkelampana voitti. Kortissa näkyvätkin nämä kaupungin symbolit. Kiitos kortista ja hauskasta tarinasta!

The third card from Germany comes from Buxtehude near Hamburg. It was sent by Bine ( Sabine ). She tells about a local fairy tale, where a hare and a hedgehog made a bet - the hedgehog, being slow, but being a clever bloke, won. These symbols of the city appear on the card. Thanks for the card and the funny story!

Nyt siirrymmekin naapurimaahan, Ranskaan. Saint-Quentinista Didier lähetti huiman korkealta otetun näkymän Toulousesta sekä napakat terveisensä. Me kiitämme niistä!

Now we are moving to the neighboring country, France. From Saint-Quentin, Didier sent a great view of Toulouse taken from a height and his warm greetings. We thank them!

Kaukaa lännestä on seuraava korttimme. Tacomasta, Seattlen läheltä sen postitti Jon. Kuvassa kukoistavat punaiset ruusut Descanso Gardens- nimisessä paikassa, lähellä Los Angelesia, mikä on Jonin perheen suosikkipaikka aina kun he matkustavat Kaliforniaan. Far from the west is our next card. From Tacoma, near Seattle it was posted by Jon. The picture shows red roses blooming at a place called Descanso Gardens, near Los Angeles, which is a favorite place for Jon's family whenever they travel to California. Irises are her favorite flowers. Many, many thanks!

Kanadan puolelta Pohjois-Amerikkaa saimme Vancouverista Chantalta huikean maisemakortin. Siinä näkyy urbaani suurkaupunki veden äärellä. Hän kertoo, miten mukava on kävellä tai ajaa polkupyörällä sillalla ( Cambie Street Bridge ) tai pitkin rantatietä False Creek-lahden varrella sekä ihastella maisemia North Shore Vuorille. Suuret kiitokset!

From the Canadian side of North America, we received an amazing landscape card from Chanta in Vancouver. It shows an urban metropolis by the water. He tells how nice it is to walk or ride a bicycle on the bridge ( Cambie Street Bridge ) or along the boardwalk along False Creek and admire the scenery of the North Shore Mountains. Thank you Wery much!

Tuolla lahdella pidettiin hiljattain "Lohikäärmevene festivaali". Se olisi ollut hauska nähdä!

The "Dragon Boat Festival" was recently held in that bay. That would have been fun to see!

Lopuksi Taiwaniin, mistä Tina Lin lähetti meille - ja varsinkin Mommille ja Papalle erikseen omat kortit kummallekin. Hienoa! Oikein paljon kiitoksia! Kortit ovat leikatut kauniista laatikosta, jossa kuvataan Taiwanin kauniita paikkoja sekä herkullisia ruokia, joista maa on tunnettu. Hän toivoo myös joskus pääsevänsä vierailemaan Suomessa. Finally, to Taiwan, where Tina Lin sent us - and especially Mommi and Papa, separate cards for each of them. Great! Thank you very much! Isoäideiltä

 

Sadekuurojen välissä juoksimme postilaatikolle ja  kastelematta vaatteitamme onnistuimme noutamaan saaliimme kuivana. Ja kaukaa sitä olikin lähetetty: Kanadasta ja Australiasta.

Between rain showers we ran to the mailbox and without getting our clothes wet we managed to pick up our catch dry. And it had been sent from far away: from Canada and Australia.

Kun avasimme kirjekuoren Kanadasta, yllätyimme mieluisasti sen sisältämästä Ateena-kortista. Olemmehan Kreikka-faneja. Kortin lähettäjä, isoäiti Ruxandra, kertoo olevansa alun perin Romaniasta, mutta työskennelleensä jo kauan Kanadassa englannin ja ranskan opettajana. Hän on ylpeä 14-vuotiaasta pojanpojastaan. When we opened the envelope from Canada, we were pleasantly surprised by the Athens card inside. After all, we are Greece fans. The sender of the card, grandmother Ruxandra, says that she is originally from Romania, but has been working in Canada for a long time as an English and French teacher. He is proud of his 14-year-old grandson. Free time is spent travelling, reading, cooking and watching TV. Thank you very much for the card and greetings! Happy summer!

Toisen isoäidin kortti tuli tosi kaukaa, Australiasta - sieltä alhaalta ( Down Under ). Sen lähetti Helena, joka kertoo siellä nyt elettävän talvea. Talvi on kylmä, mutta toki leuto verrattuna meidän pohjoiseen talveemme. Helenalla on kaksi ihanaa tyttöä lapsenlapsena. Hän on muuten kokenut Postcrossaaja, yli 10 000 lähetettyä ja saatua korttia. Another grandmother's card came from really far away, from Australia - from Down Under. It was sent by Helena, who says that it is now winter there. The winter is cold, but of course mild compared to our northern winter. Helena has two lovely girls as grandchildren.  Kaksi USA:sta, yksi Kanadasta, yksi Turkista ja yksi Suomestakin - siinä keskiviikon saaliimme. Oivallista!

Kangasalalla on jännitetty urheilukilpailuja. Sieltä Merja-isoäiti alias Mummun lähetti herttaisen Minna Immosen kortin. Pojanpojat ja Merja keskittyivät jalkapallomatsiin, pojat Portugalin, Merja Englannin puolesta. Ja pojat voittivat 3 - 1!

Kangasala has had excited spectators of sports games. From there, Grandma Merja alias Mummun sent Minna Immonen's heart-warming card. The grandsons and Merja focused on the soccer match, the boys for Portugal, Merja for England. And the boys won 3 - 1!

Gannon on kotoisin Honolulusta, mutta asuu nyt Washingtonissa ja toimii kemian opettajana. Hän lähetti meille kuvan kaupunkinsa korkeimmasta muistomerkistä, Washington Monumentista, joka on 170 m korkea. Pysyy varmaan pystyssä hurrigaaninkin kynsissä! Paljon kiitoksia!

Gannon is originally from Honolulu, but now lives in Washington and works as a chemistry teacher. He sent us a picture of the tallest monument in his city, the Washington Monument, which is 170 m tall. It will probably stay upright even in the claws of a hurricane! Many thanks!

 

Kanadasta, Kamloops B.C., Saimme rauhoittavan jokimaiseman Markilta. Hän valittaa, ettei ollut helppoa löytää kortteja, jotka voisi meille lähettää. Mutta tämähän oli löytö! Suuret kiitokset! From Canada, Kamloops B.C., We received a tranquil river view from Mark. He complains that it was not easy to find cards to send us. But this was a discovery! Thank you Wery much! We can imagine how that beach is filled with swimmers and sun worshipers on a hot summer day! Happy summer! And good luck for fishing!

Lopuksi Euroopan ja Lähi-Idän rajamaahan, Turkkiin. Sieltä saimme ripauksen kuumaa historiaa. Lähettäjänä toimi Nico, joka oli siellä lomalla. Historia on peräisin muinaisen Efesoksen kreikkalaisesta kulttuurista rakennuksineen. Kuumuus taas Välimeren aluetta kiusaavasta säästä; Nico kertoo mittarin näyttäneen +43 C. Oi-oi! Finally, to the border country of Europe and the Middle East, Turkíye. From there we got a touch of hot history. The sender was Nico, who was there on vacation. The history comes from the Greek culture of ancient Ephesus with its buildings. Heat on the other hand from the weather teasing the Mediterranean region; Nico says that the thermometer showed +43 C. Oh-oh! I hope you remembered to drink a lot! "Warm thanks" for the greetings and the card!

Eläimellistä

 Onkohan nyt jokin eläinten viikko? Saimme kolme eläinaiheista korttia. Mommikin sai yhden! USA:sta karhu, Saksasta ara-papukaija sekä kaksi kiraffia.

Is it some sort of animal week? We received three animal themed cards. Mom got one too! A bear from the USA, a parrot from Germany and two giraffes.

Ayla kertoo Pohjois-Dakotasta lähettämässään kortissa rakastavansa eläimiä. Hän luettelee pitkän joukon näkemiään villieläimiä, mutta karhua ei hän ole nähnyt. Emme mekään, vaikka niitä metsissämme eleleekin. Paljon kiitoksia! hyvää jatkoa sinulle ja Alfredille, 12-vuotiaalle kissallesi!

Ayla says in the card she sent from North Dakota that she loves animals. She lists a long list of wild animals she has seen, but she has not seen a bear. Neither do we, even if they live in our forests. Many thanks! All the best to you and Alfred, your 12 year old cat!

Lähellä Wuppertalia, pienessä Schwelmin kaupungissa asuu Jasmin, joka lähetti meille todella värikkään ja "nokkavan" papukaijan. Hän kertoo olevansa HR-konsultti ( henkilöstö- ), joka freelancer-töinään on alkanut järjestää häätilaisuuksia. Kiitos värikkäästä linnusta ja terveisistä!

Near Wuppertal, in the small town of Schwelm lives Jasmin, who sent us a really colorful and "beaky" parrot. She says that she is an HR consultant who has started organizing weddings as a freelancer. Thanks for the colorful bird and greetings!

Darmstadtin liepeiltä saimme kiraffi-kortin, joka sai mielikuvituksemme lentämään Afrikkaan. Lähettäjä on ukrainalainen Viktoria, joka asuu kolmatta vuotta Saksassa. Hän kertoo lapsena olleensa isoäitinsä keittiössä katselemassa kuvia ja tarinoita luonnon ihmeistä. Ehkäpä tämä korttikin valikoitui juuri siitä syystä, että se herättää ajatuksia. Near Darmstadt, we got a giraffe card that made our imaginations fly to Africa. The sender is Viktoria from Ukraine, who has been living in Germany for three years. She says that as a child she was in his grandmother's kitchen looking at pictures and stories about the wonders of nature. Perhaps this card was chosen precisely because it evokes thoughts. Tässä ovat Dianen kortit Pohjois-Carolinasta, missä hän asuu aviomiehensä ja appensa kanssa sekä lukuisten vuohien, koirien ja kissan kanssa. Heidän tilallaan kasvatetaan erilaisia kasviksia kodin tarpeisiin. Vuoden päästä Diane toivoo pääsevänsä eläkkeelle. Kaikkea hyvää teille!

Here are Diane's cards from North Carolina, where she lives with her husband and father-in-law and several goats, dogs and cats. Different vegetables are grown on their farm for home needs. In a year, Diane hopes to retire. All the best to you all!

Jessican kortti saapui Philadelphian läheltä Allentownista. Hän käytti Google-kääntäjää ja sai kirjoitetuksi myös selvällä suomenkielellä. Hän epäilee, että hänellä on ihanteellisin mahdollisin työpaikka Postcrossing-harrastajalle. Se on nimittäin USA:n postilaitos. Niin varmasti onkin. Jessica's card arrived from Allentown, near Philadelphia. She used Google Translate and got it written in clear Finnish as well. She suspects she has the most ideal possible job for a Postcrossing enthusiast. It is, after all, the US Postal Service. It certainly is. Thank you for the fun Peanuts card and stamps!

Calgaryn tunnetusta jääkiekkokaupungista Kanadasta saimme Lisan sykähdyttävän vuoristomaiseman. Siellä olisi mahtavaa viettää lomaa vaellellen. Kiitos paljon maisemasta!

Nolottaa

 Viime postauksessamme valitimme kurjaa kohtaloamme. Eilen sitten postilaatikko pullisteli lähetyksiä, joiden rekisteröimisessä meni koko ilta - ja tänään tuli vielä yksi lisää. Nyt nolottaa!

In our last post, we were sorry for our miserable fate. Yesterday, the mailbox was bulging with shipments that took all evening to register - and today there was one more. Now that's embarrassing!

This burst of color was sent by Nadav from San Francisco, California. In his card, he talks about the different types of climate and nature in the USA. Interesting! We received floral greetings from Britta in Frankfurt, Germany. Thank you! She praises her city as the home of the European Central Bank. It is also home to Germany's largest airport. We were charmed by her story of how she likes Saturday mornings, red wine and strawberries. We wish you beautiful Saturday mornings!

Belgian Antwerpenista Els postitti meille Marimekkoa - se on maailmalla tunnettu brändi.  Hän kertoo, miten hänellä oli vapaapäivä töistä. From Antwerp, Belgium, Els mailed us some Marimekko - it's a world famous brand. She tells how she had a day off from work. She used it for Postcrossing, cooking, yoga, reading and talking with her husband. Sounds nice! We thank you for the greetings and the card!

Alankomaista, Zwijndrechtista ( toivottavasti kirjoitimme nimen oikein ) isoäiti Hanny lähetti kirjekuoressa kaksi korttia, joista toisessa hän näkyy miehensä kanssa kotitalonsa luona ja jossa on esiteltynä kauniita paikkoja Zwijndrechtista.

From the Netherlands, Zwijndrecht ( I hope we spelled the name correctly ), grandma Hanny sent two cards in an envelope, one of which shows her with her husband at her home and which shows beautiful places in Zwijndrecht.

Tässä toisessa kortissa Hanny kertoo hänen nukkensa Cilan lähettävän meille terveisensä. Miten kivaa! Paljon kiitoksia! Lapsenlapset leikkivät Cilalla, kun he usein tulevat isovanhempiensa luokse.

In this second card, Hanny tells us that her doll Cila is sending us her greetings. How nice! Many thanks! The grandchildren play with Cila when they often visit their grandparents.

Kyprokselta saimme kolme korttia. Ne lähetti Olga. Hän kertoo olevansa venäläinen, joka on asunut saarella jo lähes kolmekymmentä vuotta. Hänellä on laaja kreikkalainen perhe. We received three cards from Cyprus. They were sent by Olga. She says she is a Russian who has lived on the island for almost thirty years. She has a large Greek family. Her cards convey a sunny, Greek atmosphere. Thank you very much for them! Ευχαριστούμε πολύ για τις όμορφες κάρτες σας!

Tessaloniki sijaitsee manner-Kreikassa.

Nämä upeat kortit tulivat siis eilen. Tänään hienoon joukkoon tuli lisää vielä yksi kortti. Sen lähetti meille ukrainalainen Julia, joka asuu perheineen Bratislavassa Slovakiassa.

Kortista tähystää ystävällinen, keltainen satulintu, joka on "tehty rakkaudella ja taianomaisesti". Oikein paljon kiitoksia! Pidämme siitä kovasti, kuten myös lintuparvesta, jonka olit liimannut korttiin. 

So these wonderful cards arrived yesterday. Today, one more card was added to the great group. It was sent to us by Ukrainian Julia, who lives with her family in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The card features a friendly, yellow fairy tale bird that is "made with love and magic". Thank you very much! We like it a lot, as well as the flock of birds you glued to the card.
