On mukava taas saada kortti. Tällä kertaa se saapui kaukaa Kiinasta, Guangzhoun kaupungista. Lähettäjä on Huiying Chen ( jälkimmäinen on perheen nimi ).

Tänään saimme viestin Saksan Essenistä. Svetlana kertoo kortissaan, miten entinen Essen, joka tunnettiin hiilikaivoksistaan sekä terästeollisuudestaan, on muuttunut nykyiseksi yliopistokaupungiksi ja useiden isojen yhtiöiden pääkonttoreiden suurkaupungiksi. Today we received a message from Essen, Germany. In her card, Svetlana tells how the former Essen, known for its coal mines and steel industry, has transformed into the current university city and a metropolis with the headquarters of several large companies. Suurten järvien alueelta, läheltä Kanadan rajaa, Michiganista ja Detroitin kaupungista tuli Kimin kortti. Siinä näkyy töyhtöpäinen lintu, jota emme tunnistaneet. Kim lähetti kuitenkin tekstiviestinä tarkennuksen linnusta: se on California Quail eli suomeksi hauskasti Kaliforniantupsuviiriäinen. Kim kertoo, että sen tupsu koostuu kuudesta päällekkäisestä höyhenestä. Kortin hän on valmistanut lintukalenterin kuvista.
Kim's card came from the Great Lakes region, near the Canadian border, Michigan and the city of Detroit. It shows a tufted bird that we didn't recognize. However, Kim sent a text message to clarify the bird: it's a California Quail. Kim says that its tuft consists of six overlapping feathers. She made the card from pictures in a bird calendar.

Toinen Amerikankortti tuli paljon etelämpää, Kaliforniasta. Ja siinäkin on kuvana lintu, roadrunner l. maatiekiitäjä - googlen mukaan suomeksi juoksukäki ( piirretyistä filmeitä tuttu ).

We received two cards from China. From Shanghai we received a special picture from Wu Di, which is a piece of Chinese history from the Ding Dynasty. It is an embroidery on silk fabric of a crane holding peaches of longevity in its beak. This was made for the royal family who lived in the Forbidden City in Beijing and the purpose was to wish them a long life. Thank you very much for the beautiful picture and its explanation!

We saved the Finland card for last. It's nice to get one from Finland sometimes! The card was sent by Sinikka from Lahti, which is a very familiar city to us, after all, Mommi and Papa's daughter lives there with her family - and Papa is originally from Häme.

Anny chose a drawing of an old mill for us. It is located near her home in Twello. And why the mill? We found out when she told us that she gets her wheat flour from the mill and bakes her own bread. It will definitely be better than what you can find on supermarket shelves! Anny bakes other things herself and prepares all kinds of dishes for the table from the products of her large garden. Se on vanhaa aluetta kauniine temppeleineen ja vanhoine katuineen, mistä johtuen siellä liikkuu paljon turisteja.
